Therefore, institutions should come up with strategies and plans to prepare for any disaster that may arise at any time. Also, the staff that works in the institutions should be ready for the task that may arise due to training and implementation of the policies that will safeguard property. The paper focuses on different responses to Bushfires in Spain and Portugal, in 2017. It also gives a description of how the event was managed and the practice principles it was accorded. 2017 deadly forest fire in Portugal In June 2017, a deadly forest fire occurred and claimed at least 62 lives (Jones, 2017). Efforts to alert the public to take precaution was unsuccessful as the fire had already destroyed telephone lines. More than 1,500 fire fighters battled to counter the spread of the fire that kept spreading leading to a great loss of lives as people tried to flee. Antonio Costa reported that the emergency services responded fast but were hindered by the disabled communication. The firefighting process, however, continued despite the inability to communicate with the residents. Communication was restored immediately, and residents were urged to listen to the radio for any advice or direction. The government of Portugal declared three days of national mourning while awaiting further assistance from Italy, Spain, France and the UN. During the deadly disaster, some tales of heroism emerged. One such tale revolves around Maria do Ceu Silva, a resident of Nodeirinho village, who saved 12 people (Jones, 2017). She did that by asking the people to shelter in her water tank so as to avoid the flames. Among the residents that she saved was a 95-year-old woman. She, together with her son, managed to get her 85-year-old mother in the tank, where they all sheltered for six hours. Many people were not lucky as some got injured and others lost their lives in the ordeal. Silva reported having lost many neighbors and friends in the fire. It was a sad moment for the residents of that village. The fire broke out in Pedrogao Grande municipality and was said to have been caused by lightning. More than 60 people were injured as 18 of them were taken to hospitals in Coimbra, Lisbon, and Porto (Jones, 2017). Some local residents claimed that they lacked the attention of firefighters for several hours, as their houses burned. Most people blamed poor planning of forestry reserve, while Quercus, Portugals popular environmental lobby group, blamed forest management errors and poor political decisions (Black, Arrowsmith, Black Cartwright, n.d). Three months, prior to the fire disaster, the government had proposed new measures that could combat the annual scourge of forest fires. The measures included restricting eucalyptus plantations and cheaper property registration program that could ascertain neglected land. The reforms had not been fully effected, yet. The June fire disaster got to a level of human tragedy that had never been experienced in the country. Smoke clouds that lay low made it difficult for fire planes and helicopters to drop water on the flames. A thick layer of white smoke covered about 12 miles on either side of a motorway. A burn-tout car was spotted outside, partially burnt houses; while face-masked police surrounded a body under a white sheet, a few meters ahead. The fire spread quickly due to strong winds at the moment (Foate, Laing, Wilson, Cross Hunter, 2008). Daniel Starling, a British man, had an explanation to give concerning his tale. The moment he witnessed the flames, he jumped in his car and raced away (Jones, 2017). On the way, he met a family of four elderly people and picked them. In 2016, Portugal was hit by a series of fires that led to the destruction of more than 100000 hectares of land. Control of the fire The June fire disaster in Portugal was brought under control after about five days. The fire broke out in Pedrogao Grande on Saturday of the 17thJune 2017, and then later spread to Arganil, Gois and Pampilhosa da Serra (Jones, 2017). In Pedrogao Grande, the fire devastated 30,000 hectares of land and was only brought under control after five days, through a lot of struggle from firefighters who had to undergo intense heat and shifting winds (Jones, 2017). The struggle was simplified by low temperatures and high humidity. The fire in Gois was contained on Thursday of the 23rd. Portuguese interior minister said that blaming the state for a disaster was unwise, especially when the fires had not been contained. He further said that such kind of a natural disaster could be caused by a number of factors. He added that they were not sure if the consequences of the fire could have been avoided (Jones, 2017).Antonio Costa inquired from the head of the National Republican Guard, why the road that had most of the fire victims burnt was not closed. He also wanted to know how bad the communication system had been affected and whether high cases of death arose due to the delay in response or the unusual weather. The prime minister was not short of questions as he further asked the emergency services, the point of planning, and executing operations that were not working. He further asked if there was an alternative connection to the public (Jones, 2017). He insisted that as much as the telephone communication lines had been destroyed, the firefighting effort was not to be compromised. The Portuguese weather agency reported the fire spread due to exceptional conditions. The agency blamed atmospheric instability that caused strong winds to blow towards the ground, hence causing the quick spread of the fire (Board, 2010). Officers reported that the road with the most fire victims was not closed, as they had no information about the risk it had. Problems with communication was everywhere, hence the lack of an alternative means (Jones, 2017).The cause of the fire raised some issues as well. The national police chief blamed it on lightning and insisted that his officers found a tree which had been struck. The president of League of Firefighters, however, ruled out the claim and said arson was the cause (Grigg, Clarke, Wahl Ryan, n.d). He added that there was already fire burning, two hours prior to the storm. Wildfire response from emergency services More than 1,100 firefighters battled with the fair, the wind and temperatures would favor them. There were questions on why there was a high death rate, yet the country was used to experiencing wildfires (Jones, 2017). The major issue of concern was that of suggesting roadN236 as an alternative route, yet it led to many deaths in cars. 47 people had died in their cars while using the route (Jones, 2017). Out of the 47 victims, thirty of them had burned to death in their cars, while the other 17 died after abandoning their motorcades. One survivor reported that gendarmes directed them to use road N236, instead of IC8 which the gendarmes used (Jones, 2017). Upon reaching road IC8, they were directed to N236 that was said to be safer. They believed it was safe, only to find out that it was not. Among the victims who had tried to flee, was a four-year-old boy who had been left in the care of his aunt and uncle, as his parents went on a honeymoon (Jones, 2017). Efforts from his mother and grandmother to find the boy led them to his body and that of his uncle, besides a car. Poor forest management and depopulation are believed to have contributed to the disaster. A professor in the department of forest science, Paulo Fernandes reported that the unpreparedness from the people was due to the fact that it was not yet the season for the usual forest fires (Jones, 2017). The professor further added that the winter during the period had been dry which combined with a heat wave and atmospheric instability causing lightning instead of rain (Boston, Wanna, PritchardLipski,2014). He noted that the fire was unique as it occurred early and caused a lot of damage and loss of lives. The affected area is heavily forested and so naturally lit fires take place in random and majorly affect remote areas. The professor assumed that people panicked when they did not get sight any firefighters and decided to flee in their cars, instead of staying at home (Jones, 2017).Fernandes noted that as much as forest fires that occurred in 2003 and 2005 had led to some improvements in disaster planning, preventing fires was still an issue and hence more emphasis was laid on fighting the fires. Quercus , who is an environmental lobby group in Portugal, said that the fires occurred due to poor political decisions and forest management. He linked the claim to the eucalyptus trees that are highly flammable (Jones, 2017). The trees had become dominant in the countrys forests. Fernandes however, argued that the risk of eucalyptus was exaggerated. He added that it could be a contributor, but most the countrys vegetation was quite flammable. Pine trees and shrubs consist of the countrys vegetation as well, and they are flammable. Measures that the government had come up with had not yet been put into effect (Jones, 2017). The measures included restricting eucalyptus trees and determining neglected land through a cheap registration of property. Xavier Viegas, a forest fires expert, reported that the spread of the fire was too fast for the firefighters to contain within a given period. However, he said that communication issues contributed a great deal to the high death rate. Some countries that have experienced disasters of firehave put systems in place to alert their people when there is a danger (Di?az, Bellamine, Dugdale Hanachi,2016). One such country is Australia that began using broadcasts of emergency and text messages, after 2009 fire disaster that consumed 173 people. Viegas complained that in Portugal, a person from the parish council moves from door to door asking the residents to evacuate (Jones, 2017). He further adds that the Australian communication system needs to be adopted. Analysis of the fire According to a Portuguese citizen, every summer meant fire. The fires kept burning unconsumed parts of the forest, hence growing closer to the villages. The fire could generate a lot of heat, leaving residents dressed in their beach wear (Jones, 2017).The 2017 fire, however, was the worst. The fire burned to the central part of the country, killing 64 people. Experts said it was time to implement the solutions that had been debated on. They include restricting eucalyptus trees, identifying isolated land and enforcing laws meant to prevent fires (LeonardHowitt, 2010). A closer look on the N236 road revealed many eucalyptus trees close to the road. The law forbids that, but it was the case. The revelation explains why many residents who used the road perished. Portugal is among the heavily forested countries in Europe. However, very little (1.6%) of the land is owned by the government (Denyer Pilbeam, 2015). Most the land is owned by the locals, and some have migrated from the villages, leaving the land unattended to. Moreover, the north and central parts of Portugal are covered with eucalyptus trees (Martins Felgueiras, 2015). The trees grew very fast and replaced the ancient species of oaks, cork, and chestnuts, which are more resistant to fire. Eucalyptus trees are valued by paper industries as they serve as a raw material. Environmentalists have battled to have eucalyptus trees replaced with cork trees, oaks and chestnuts (Matvienko, AfoninBelov, 2011). However, the plan has constantly been hindered by the paper industry. The country has good laws, but the citizens are not adhering to them. Mr. Castro reported that another tragedy needs to be avoided. He points out the need to repopulate the rural areas. He also adds that eucalyptus trees ought to be restricted close to paper industries and that native trees should be grown. The cheapest and most effective strategy of managing bushfires is controlled burning; whereby the highly flammable forest species re burnt so as to reduce risks of fires in future. There is also need to introduce fire lessons in the curriculum so as to prepare citizens from an early age. Lesson learned from the fire incidents The month of July had seen firefighters to France, Italy, and Spain fighting numerous wildfires that were caused by heat and drought. In June, a disastrous forest fire killed at least 64 people. Thereafter, there was a fire in Spain that forced more than 1500 people to be evacuated from their homes. The result is more land covered with dense forests that replaced previous farmlands and open forests. As much as forests protect the soil, they can be causes of fire during the summer period. Unfuel the fire Strategies that consider the ecological, social and economic factors of fire should be used as solutions to reduce risks of fire. Fire suppression- firefighting vehicles should be at a standby so as to address any issue of fire immediately it occurs so as to manage it early. As a result, people and homes will be kept safe. However, suppression is not the ultimate solution as vegetation will still accumulate, raising fire risks in future. Therefore, there should be prescribed burning so as to reduce the connectivity of the fuel. The option of prescribed burning may not be effective in all places. The reason for this claim is due to various causes of fires. Some fires are caused by local conditions, interaction with climate and topography. A good example is that of Spain and Portugal. Prescribed burning is likely to be more effective in Portugal, as compared to Spain. Fire incidents in Portugal are driven by fuel while the fires in Spain are driven by climate and weather. Fuel management can be effective when applied to rural areas. Promoting bio-economy in rural areas provides avenues for effective management (Adams, 2013). Bio-economy involves practicing forestry and agriculture at the same time so that the local economy can benefit. Creating open forests with widely spaced trees prevents the spread of fire between trees. At the same time, the option of sustainable forestry can create jobs in the energy production and forestry industries. Grazing in the forests is also an option of fuel reduction in rural areas. France is integrating this method, while Spain is yet to implement it. Practicing agriculture on abandoned pieces of land can reduce the risks of wildfires by breaking the connectivity of fuels in the forests. Crops such as vineyards and truffles can be used as green breaks in the forests. Involving the local community It is very important to educate the local community about wildfires and how to prevent them. Some of the areas to focus on include: when to shelter, home safety and when to leave unsafe places. Such steps, if followed properly, can reduce adverse effects of fire on the community. The education process should be done throughout using a participatory approach, and not just before or after fire outbreaks. The first step is to have decision-making groups comprising of various stake holders, including local business, farmers, and wildlife organizations. The next step is to bring such groups together and empower them. The groups can then be involved in the spatial planning of rural and urban areas so as to integrate the risks of wildfires. Once the various groups are informed, they can be able to determine decisions by viewing the risk of fires that they can cause. For instance, they can be able to decide on whether and how new homes should be built. Conclusion The 2017 fires that took place in Portugal and Spain can be termed as tragic due to the loss of lives they cost the people as well as property. Several lessons can be learnt from the fires that occurred in both the countries to avoid the losses that occurred. One cannot eliminate risks associated with forest fires completely. Therefore, the relevant institutions should come up with policies that should ensure fires are dealt with accordingly at the right time to avoid damages. However, having fire management strategies in place that incorporate ecological, social and economic factors present in fire-prone areas can help to protect people and ecosystems during incidents of change of climate. I have many friends that are high school teachers and they are being trained on how to teach online courses. While this makes sense for college students, I don’t think online courses are the proper way to go with high school students. In college people need the flexibility for work, families, etc. In high school, students do not need the flexibility, high school teaches more than just knowledge, you get social skills, meet people, have to work with other people and physical activity. I think this changes society in a big way, social skills are extremely important in many different aspects of life. I think that businesses should be allowed to use technology freely, if it is able to help improve their work flow and their productivity, they should be allowed to use it. People need to be careful with keeping up on technology so as businesses further their practices with it, people are able to keep up. I think there should be more training options out there to help people especially when more technically advanced employees are more likely to get hired/promoted versus ones that may not have those skills. I think that the government should not have control over what is posted on the internet, people should know how to tell whether the information is good information or not. While this does make it hard, trusted sources are easy to come by and the government should not be able to decide what information the citizens get access to and what information they don’t. My paper is based on the article entitled â€Å"Reclaiming the Commons†, by Naomi Klein. In this article the author defines what anti-globalization movement means in her own words. The meaning and origins of the term anti-globalization movement is disputed amongst various socialists and economists, but Klein says that anti-globalization movement can mean different things to different people based on their interests in a particular issue. It is therefor the movement of many movements. Before going in depth about the article, it is important to know from where the idea of anti-globalization comes from and how the movement came into being. Some argue that is all started from Seattle, but a lot of them are unaware of the fact that AGM has gone through three waves. The first wave was back in 1970, when oil prices skyrocketed due to economic downturn, which lead to strikes, protests and demonstrations. The second wave erupted with the end of the cold war, during the early 1990’s and the third wave democracy spread like wild fire. The third and most important wave was during the 50th anniversary of Bretton Woods when the WTO emerged from the GATT. The third wave lead to many activist groups to rise and this lead to overlapping emphasis on various issues like; anti-capitalist groups, women’s rights groups, global inequality groups, and many others. Klein mentions that people join the AGM because of similar interests and ideologies, which might be different from the regular mass. I personally think that people who do not agree with the common norms of society join these groups in an attempt to show their rebellious attitude towards the big corporations and political powers. It is a known fact that one individual cannot tackle an entire organization and therefore, they form these individuals come together and make an organization of their own. They work together against the elites who turn almost everything into commodities; from education, to health care, to natural resources, even we are commodities since we â€Å"sell† our labor, it is considered a commodity. The basic things we need to survive are being privatized by these multinational corporations, because of their greed for power and profit. In our hegemonic society, most of the people are almost brainwashed by powerful individuals who build leadership and consensus in the face of great inequality. They frame and spin the truth in such a way, that it seems to be in the best interest of the citizens. People who realize this resist to the changes that are implicated on them and the society. These people with similar interests also form a group to protest against these big corporations and their immoralities. So we can see how different groups emerge because of different issues that they face. As Klein mentions in the article, activists who want change are not waiting for a revolution to happen, they are acting right now because what can be done today should not be left for tomorrow. Another reason is that the global economy and infrastructure keeps changing so rapidly, that it is sometimes hard to catch up to it and if they do want to make a difference, then they need to act quickly. As a result, these activists create their own anti-privatization campaigns and most of the times these campaigns get under way on their own. Sometimes, other activist groups join in together and even though it seems that these organized groups work together, each participate because of their own benefits as I have mentioned above. For example, there can be an alliance between the women’s right group and the movements of small farmers. Each have their own motifs but if they work together they can get more attention and make their voices heard in a larger scale. These are more local campaigns that occur every now and then but there are also larger global scale campaigns that take place and these protests are usually directed towards international and supranational organizations like the G-8, the WTO, the World Bank, and the IMF. These movements initially used to aim at local and national issues, but now because of globalization, they are aimed at the new global order that has no democratic institutions. During these campaigns, protestors take to the streets because that is the main form of expression that is available to them. In the article, there is an example of Maude Barlow, a Canadian activist, who said that when she was leading the campaign against NAFTA, she was doing that to fight for her nation, but now the cause has gone beyond nationality and state borders. Now things are more global and it is no longer a fight for nationalism but for democracy. When these small activist groups started to get more involved with the global society, they realized it was a much bigger problem then they anticipated. Thanks to the big corporations, they now see the root cause of these problems. It was clear right from the beginning that these corporations played a big part in creating these issues but now, the activists realize that these money hungry corporations are not only involved, but they are the ones who have created these issues and inequalities in the first place. The rich gets richer, and the poor get poorer, hence the gap keeps on getting bigger and they use the working class citizens to feed them and their selfish needs. As consumers, we always look at the front end of production and ignore the back end because we have never thought of looking at it in any other way. But for me, the back end is more of a terrifying horror story. Underpaid workers, child labor, and sweatshops are just parts of it, and there are only a few who have stood up against this harsh reality because most people are just afraid to stand up against these large corporations. For example, Nike, one of the biggest corporations in the world use child labor and sweatshop and they are the ones who helped pioneer the new brand of activist synergy which basically means the coalition of multiple activist groups to fight against these corporations to create a larger global effect then they would have individually. The basic cause of these activist groups is to stop the WTF, IMF and FTAA from creating any legislation that will directly affect the economy and the working class individuals. Their fear is privatization and the loss of the people. But sometimes, these activists’ movements turn into violent protests when outsiders who have little knowledge about the reality of the situation try and barge in. This creates chaos and thus the real point remains undelivered. This happens due to the non-hierarchical structure of the movement and the unorganized press conferences. Usually the protests are not thought out or planned before hand, which leads to dramatic circumstances. These are the reasons why companies like Nike are still in business and no matter how much or how big the protest, nothing is being done. The protests might have reduced the issue, as some would like to believe, but did not completely eliminate it. Some people ask, if they know the corporations are so powerful, why stand up against them? The reason Klein mentions is that activists usually protest because they know that the change they anticipate for, will not come through electoral politics or any other form of industrial power and thus, they challenge the constitutions and structures themselves. There is an obvious injustice and inequality that goes on which are always being undermined, and the reason why these problems occur in the first place is because of the poor decision making of these powers. Instead of the people making the decisions themselves, they are forced to follow the legislation created by these political and industrial powers. Klein also argues that most complaints against the WTO is about governments embracing an economic model that involves much more then opening borders to goods and services and therefore the term anti-globalization is not appropriate. But most people do not understand the term globalization and therefore this movement gets criticized over and over again. If we talk about just anti-globalization, it more or less means being against trade and globalization but in reality, the movement is not against trade but it is against the tag along that come with free trade that are imposed by the government and law makers. In this hegemonic society, it is almost impossible for an individual to stand up and fight against the system alone and that is where the anti-globalization movement comes in. So through this analysis, we can see that there are two types of analysts. There are those activists who fight for global and broader issues, and there are those who fight for day-to-day survivals and are the most neglected. The only ways their voices can be heard is by merging the two together and form a concrete alliance that is strong enough to fight these elites. This will create a political framework that can take corporate power and control, and also empower local organizing and self-determination. Therefore, Klein says that the real motif behind the movement is not weather it is for or against trade, but if individuals have the right to negotiate the terms and conditions that come with these foreign capitals and investments. In other words, even though the term is a little misleading, their real goal is not to demolish globalization but to make it more fare and equal.

If so, how much more profitable and over what amount of time? Which benefits you need to detail will depend on the sector and the kind of work youre doing. But the main thing to keep in mind is that you do need to highlight the benefits of your work and provide good evidence to support them. Finally, there are some other things you can include to make your case study really stand out. A good testimonial quote from your previous client can make your case study seem much more authentic (again, ask permission to use this). You can also consider using a particularly compelling graphic or image if it illustrates a key benefit of your work with your previous client. Things to avoid Try to avoid writing case studies at the last minute. It can take time to put all the relevant information together – and that may not be time you have when youre actively writing to a deadline. Do they really need to know when you first responded to the ITT or RFP? Or how many of your staff worked on part of the project? It is your duty to obey the laws and it is your duty to always act in this manner. Consequences are not to be considered when judging a persons actions (Thiroux, Krasemann, 2012, p. 46). Inspector Javert’s position in society supports his actions. This man must follow the laws set by his government, and lead his community by example. His duty was to carry out the law which are examples of rule absolutes which offer no room for exceptions (Thiroux, Krasemann, 2012, p. 87). The Inspector becomes obsessed with the capture of Jean ValJean, a criminal who must be caught and brought to justice. The film begins with the story of a man, Jean ValJean, who is first introduced to the viewer in a prison setting, where later you find out he was imprisoned for theft. After serving nine-teen years of punishment in prison for his crime he is then rewarded release on parole. Following his release he encounters another situation where he acts in contrast to those beliefs of a rule utilitarian like Javert. These contrasting characters are examples within their guiding principles. Non-Consequentialist Theories are based on the idea that consequences are not and in fact should not be a factor in determining whether the act is moral or immoral (Thiroux, Krasemann, 2012, p. 46). Where as consequentialism is based or concerned with consequences. Jean ValJean’s guiding principles are more of an act utilitarian who believes that everyone should perform that act which will bring out the greatest good over bad for everyone affected by the act (Thiroux, Krasemann, 2012, p. 37). Utilitarianism is a form of Consequentialism. Javert is a rule utilitarian where his ideas are that everyone should always follow the rule or rules that will bring greater good. T hese ideas are contrasting because it is unsure what actions would bring greater good with or without making exceptions to the rules at hand. Javert being an official of the law encourages the importance of law within the film to avoid loosing control within his community. On one hand ValJean broke the law only to avoid the death of starvation. These situations are the basis of the conflicting approaches to morality by each main character in the film. ValJean encounters the Character of Bishop Myriel who offers him a job and teats him kindly despite his criminal background. The Bishop is a positive influence on ValJean. While working for the Bishop, he makes a promise to become a better man and redeem himself only after being caught once again for stealing silverware from the bishop. The Bishop lies to officers only to save ValJean from returning to prison. With the silver that was stolen and now a gift was he only able to accomplish his promise for a better life. ValJeans commitment led him to later became the owner of a factory and the Mayor of his city. There we are first introduced to the character of Fantine. We discover that she has a child, Cossette, who is in care with another family The Thenardiers. Fantine works hard to provide for Cossette at the factory where she is later fired from, which led to her desperate need to make money. Desperate times cause for desperate measures., like Fantine prostituting to as a mean to make money. Fantine’s unlawful actions lead her to encounter the Inspector Javert. His utilitarian approach to the situation causes more conflict with the Inspector who believes she should be inprisoned for breaking the law. More evidence with the personal moral theories conflicting are evident when Jean ValJean promises Fantine that he will take care of her daughter Cossette. He first must escape from Mr. Jovert who is now aware that he is a convict. Javert expressed the idea that a law breaker cannot reform therefore ValJean should not be Mayor. Javert commented on his parents also being criminals when he was a child. Once exposed ValJean escapes once again with Cossette to Paris, where they live in a convent. He feels it is his duty to carry out his promise of a better life. Reparation (prima facie) is a duty mentioned when looking at non-consequential theories (Thiroux, Krasemann, 2012, p. 54). Cossette and ValJean are able to achieve a fulfilled life with security in the city of Paris while at the convent. Cossette ultimately asks to not become a nun and persuades ValJean to live outside the convent. Willing to please Cossette, ValJean agrees to the move. Cossette attracts an admirer while exploring her new surroundings in the character Marius. Marius is a young revolutionary who asks to â€Å"Restore the Republic†. He becomes obsessed and determined to interact with Cossette, very much like he is committed to his revolution. Inspector Javert also resides in Paris where he is the newest Deputy as the reward from exposing the truth about Jean ValJean. The â€Å"cat and mouse game† between Jean ValJean and the Inspector Javert is continued in Paris when he is informed with information about the revolutionists new love interested Cossette. Marius was followed by one of ValJeans informant following the revolutionists. Javert is once again on the hot pursuit to bring ValJean to an end. He is determined to bring justice because it is the right thing for him to do. ValJean unaware of Cossettes relationship with her young suitor opens an opportunity for the Inspector to get close and finally cease the former convict. ValJean now a â€Å"reformed man† refuses to give up without a fight. In the attempt to flee once again ValJean is encountered with the dilemma of Marius and Cossette’s relationship. Her relationship is troubled by the increasing resistance from the revolutionists against the Parisian army. With the city barricaded ValJean must return Marius safely to Cossette. In pursuit for Marius the army injures Cossette’s love and now ValJean must flee the chaos of the city with the injured Marius. Not before once again encountering the persistant Javert. This is a turn of events that gives ValJean to turn on his predator and kill him. This doesn’t happen because ValJean is said to have been merciful towards the Inspector. In the end of this tale the Inspector is surprised by the mercy ValJean showed towards him. The Inspector allowed the convict to aid the Marius to some medical attention and return to his capturer. ValJean also agreed to be turned into the Parisian officials after saving Marius. With Marius alive he would no longer have to worry about his Cossettte. Therefore fulfilling his commitment to Fantine. Upon returning Mr. Javert expressed how his gu iding principles to perform his duty the right way brought him confusion when ValJean showed him mercy in the situation of life and death. Death was the only solution the Inspector had in store to this for this ending. Everything ValJean did was justified when the Inspector decided to kill himself. The Inspector never breaking the law himself saw that there were flaws to his guiding principles and could not live with himself no more. Unwilling to face the consequences he saw fit to end his life thus granting ValJean his freedom. He felt his obsession for the capture of the ValJean would see no end and haunt him forever. At this point he acknowledges the fact that ValJean is a reformed man and not an â€Å"animal† thought to have been created while in the prison system. Before ValJean was a â€Å"difficult problem† to the Inspector himself and he needed bring justice to those acts of the former Mayor. Everyday we are faced with the same if not different situations where we are asked to do the â€Å"right thing†. This is very difficult even to those who appeal to be morally or ethically correct. Rules can be to general and only act as a guide to do the greatest of good while avoiding consequences. It is also difficult in the sense that there acts or rules offer no exceptions. The story of Les Miserables proves otherwise. ValJean overcame many difficulties and while his actions may have been unlawful they did affect those around him positively. His actions in the end brought him security and loving relationship with his â€Å"daughter†, Cossette, all while ultimately keeping his promis to the Bishop Myriel and the late Fantine. His actions throughout the film prove that he is indeed a good man despite his criminal background. ValJean accomplishes reformation which seemed impossible to the characteristics of the Inspector. Ciminals should be brought to jusitice, laws are meant to be followed, under no circumstances can the law be flawed, and no exceptions are to be made. These guiding principles for the Inspector shaped his actions throughout this story. ValJeans actions show that his is a honest, caring, and loving man who is rewarded with freedom. He no longer has the fear of being caught by the Inspector and also rewarded with love from his â€Å"daughter†, Cossette. In the film ValJean states that â€Å"Love is the only future God gives us†. The guiding theories to ones ethical and moral dilemmas can be conflicting with those of others. Here we have actions based on the idea of realizing the consequences for your actions first or not thinking about any consequences and acting on what you feel to be right. Rules should always be followed with no exceptions. The belief that one should not be judged or defined by any action in particularly. Rules are important to a society bringing awareness to consequences by ones actions. It is important to not give up on ourselves because we are all capable of reformation if we want it.
